The new "Warlord" thing is also a gimmick and largely an inconsequential nothing outside of handicapping player resources or otherwise locking the Win-Trigger in singleplayer behind controlling all of the Warlords.

The game is so similar to the previous titles in the series that I felt right at home, but having literally the same mechanics of games that are more than a decade. And the city building, while it can be an interesting and almost zen little puzzle, often feels at odds. Another bad title for the series, Stronghold: Warlords fails to innovate, basically resulting in a reskin of the previous games with a bunch of additional features added. But as an RTS, it feels like it's still living in the mists of the past. I can't even think of something it does well now that I'm trying to.
